Playa Avellanas is a beautiful half mile stretch of pale-gold sand bordered by mangroves and an estuary. Playa Avellanas has excellent surfing, you can wander up the beach with your board, and swap surf stories while eating delicious food. Avellanas is about 15 km south of Tamarindo by road, and closer to 10 km if you walk in along the beaches. It's about 5 km to the north of Playa Negra, north of Playa Junquillal.
